Monkeys are a normal enemy in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. They are commonly found in Ashina Castle, Ashina Depths and Sunken Valley.

Monkey[]

Three found on the grassy road towards the Great Serpent Shrine; two in the tall grass and one sitting atop a torii.

Several found on the right path leading down from Temple Grounds in Senpou Temple, accompanied by a Mallet-Wielding Taro Soldier Soldier.

Several of them, some wielding a rifle or a sword are sitting on a small island in the poison pools of Riven Cave along with a Monkey Warrior.

Behaviour and Tactics[]

Unarmed Monkey[]

While they are not much of a threat to Wolf by themselves, they usually always attack in groups. They can also throw dirt/rocks at Wolf and if he gets hit, he will be stunned. All monkeys are easily dealt with Spinning Shuriken or Flame Vent. The are also easily intimidated by Shinobi Firecracker. The Finger Whistle can also turn them against each other.

Sword-Wielding Monkey[]

The Sword-Wielding Monkeys arr the most dangerous and quickly can shorten the distance between them and Wolf with a few agile jumps. They have a five-hit combo that if it lands can deal a significant damage. They are also able to defend against Wolf's katana, however since they have low Vitality and Posture, they can be overwhelmed easily. If Wolf evades them for a while and keeps its distance, the monkeys get frustrated and will throw their katana at him, making them unarmed.

Rifle-Wielding Monkey[]

The Rifle-Wielding Monkeys will always try to keep their distance from Wolf. After each three shots, they take some time to reload. If they can't escape Wolf, they will try to chase him away with few swipes or with an overhead slam from their rifle. The slam will cause the rifle to explode dealing damage to anything nearby, but making the monkeys become unarmed.

Monkey Warrior[]

A white Monkey wielding double katana.

Two of them found in Riven Cave, one standing by itself before the Toxic Memorial Mob, and another sitting on a small island in the poison pool, along with Monkeys wielding a rifle or a sword. Another two can be found near the Great Serpent Shrine Idol after the Interior Ministry's final invasion.

Behaviour and Tactics[]

  • Perilous AttackPerilous Sweep: sweeps the ground with both katanas.
  • Swipes: two horizontal slashes.
  • Retreat: jumps back, slashing at the same time.
  • Jumping Smash: jumps up then comes smashing down.
  • Flurry: jumps back and initiates a rapid combo of 5 slashes, may ends with a last jumping smash.

Monkey Warriors are incredibly vulnerable to the Loaded Shuriken tool just like their Monkey counterpart.

Trivia[]

  • The Monkeys in Riven Cave near the Poison Pool seem to be missing fur from their backs.
