A Prosthetic Tool created by fitting an indestructible Iron-ribbed Umbrella to the Arm. Costs spirit emblems to use. When spread open, it will protect against attacks from all directions. Hold it out while moving to protect from light attacks. |
Overview[]
Unlocked by giving Iron Fortress to the Sculptor. Sold by Blackhat Badger for 1600 in Ashina Castle near the Old Grave Sculptor's Idol. Costs 1 Spirit Emblem to use.
The Loaded Umberella is the only primarily defensive Prosthetic Tool within Sekiro's arsenal and does a wondrous job at it. The basic version alone could protect against most attacks safe for Sweeping, Fire, Lightning and Terror attacks. Pressing the Prosthetic Tool button will have Sekiro draw the Umbrella and spread it out. Attacks that make contact during the animation are Deflected. The timing for deflection is easier than that of Deflecting with Kusabimaru. Holding the Prosthetic button will instead have Sekiro turtle down with the Umbrella, allowing players to reposition while guarded from most form of attacks. It should be remembered that Guarding with the umbrella does not prevent the posture bar from filling up, the guard will likewise break once the bar is filled.
The Projected Force Prosthetic Martial Art allows Sekiro to do a powerful, stagger-resistant cross-slash with the umbrella's metallic frame from the turtle position; this attacks ends the guard, and reenacting the umbrella will consume Spirit Emblems. The same Martial Art also adds a projectile mechanic to the umbrella: after guarding/deflecting enough projectile attack, the umbrella will begin to emit smoke, from whence Sekiro can launch a powerful projectile attack that launches straighr into the locked on target by executing the aforementioned cross-slash attack. This projectile can be stored for later use as long as players do not switch Prosthetic Tool.
The Magnet upgrade adds an umbrella spinning move that can be executed by pressing the Guard button while the umbrella is unfolded. Attacks making contact while the umbrella is spun will be perfectly deflected. This spinning move has a decent animation frame and thus is not hard to pull off. It also omits the player from needing to fold and unfold to deflect with the umbrella.
The Phoenix's Lilac Umbrella upgrade keeps the spinning mechanic from previous upgrade and adds the ability to guard/deflect Apparition attacks and prevent Terror build-up. In addition, the Projected Force allows this version of the Umbrella to be coated in an energy similar with the effect of Divine Confetti when used for the Cross-Slash attack (not the projectile), dealing massive Vitality and Posture damage to Apparition type enemies. These set of featues make this umbrella particularly useful against Shichimen Warrior and Headless. Note that the umbrella does not protect against Shichimen Warrior's AoE terror field attack, because the terror energy erupts from the floor, an angle of which the umbrella does not protect.
The Suzaku's Lotus upgrade works under the same principle as Phoenix's Lilac, but in the case of Fire-based attacks. This makes the Umbrella useful against several late game enemies like the Red Guard Cannon-wielder and Riflemen who uses powerful Fire projectiles and the Demon of Hatred. Note that the Projected Force attacks of this umbrella does not build up Burn status on enemies despite the flaming animation.
Ability[]
(Hold) Shelter: Spread the Loaded Umbrella to guard from attacks in all directions. You can also move with the fan deployed, and it will continue to block lighter attacks as you move.
(Release the moment enemy attack lands) Umbrella Deflect: Spread the Umbrella to deflect enemy attacks. Umbrella deflects are easier to time than sword deflects.
(Press Guard while keeping the Umberella on): Fold and unfold the umbrella for another possible deflect.
(Press Guard while keeping the Umberella's upgraded version on): Spin. Strikes that make contact while the umberella is spun will be deflected. Spinning cost 1 Spirit Emblem.
