Description[]
Anayama the Peddler (物売りの穴山), is a bandit turned merchant. He had an encounter with Wolf in the Hirata Estate, when his band of thieves led by Juzou the Drunkard sieged the place.
Anayama seeks now to expand his business, but has run short on money, so he offers to sell Wolf some important information about the night they met and a peculiar treasure of the Hirata Estate in exchange for a few Sen.
He'll ask Sekiro to first discover what the Ashina Samurai are in desperate need of and then to bring him a strong man who's willing to pillage the corpses of the battlefields.
When the final attack of the Central Forces hits Ashina, he'll lose his entire stock to the invading hordes and his life too.
Location[]
- Outskirts Wall - Stairway: before the Sculptor's Idol, he sits beyond the gate guarded by the Cannoneer.
- If Kotaro joined him, during the final invasion of Ashina Castle and Outskirts, he'll be found on the other side of the gate were he used to be.
- Estate Path: past the gate behind the two Bandits shouting at Hirata residents to surrender, before the first two Shield-Wielding Bandits.
Progression #1 ("That Night")[]
Ashina Outskirts (Outskirts Wall - Stairway)[]
Talk to Anayama and purchase his informations for 10.
(Optional) Pay 20 to buy the Flame Barrel Memo. If Wolf is already in possession of the Flame Barrel, Anayama will give him Oil [x2].
Once the area is reloaded, Anayama will have some merch to sell and upon leaving him, he'll ask Sekiro to find out what the Ashina Samurai need.
Progression #2 (Salt)[]
Ashina Castle (Old Grave)[]
Eavesdrop on the Ashina Samurai and Ashina Rifleman on the bridge to the Great Serpent Shrine.
Ashina Outskirts (Outskirts Wall - Stairway)[]
Report back to Anayama and reload the area: he will have new items in his stock and, as Wolf's leaving, he'll tell the shinobi that he's looking for a strong man to help him take weapons and armors from the corpses of fallen soldiers.
Progression #3 (Business Will Continue)[]
Senpou Temple (Shugendo)[]
Retrieve the Red and White Pinwheel on the cliff before the Armored Warrior.
Senpou Temple (Senpou Temple, Mt. Kongo)[]
Talk to Kotaro and give him the Pinwheel: this will unlock the option to send him to Anayama.
Ashina Outskirts (Outskirts Wall - Stairway)[]
With Kotaro by his side, Anayama will now have new products in his inventory.
Fountainhead Palace (Fountainhead Palace)[]
Upon defeating the Corrupted Monk, the Dragon's Tally Board she drops will unlock new items at every merchant, Anayama included.
Ashina Outskirts (Outskirts Wall - Stairway)[]
After the Divine Dragon is defeated, Ashina will be assaulted one last time by the Central Forces. Anayama, having lost everything to the invaders, offers Wolf his last piece of product, his Promissory Note that discounts the cost of items when purchasing from merchants, for 1.
Progression #4 (The Three-Story Pagoda)[]
Hirata Estate (Estate Path)[]
If talked in the Hirata Estate memory, Anayama will tell Wolf of a three-story pagoda that might contain a valuable treasure.
Behaviour and Tactic[]
- Drag Swing: drags the axe behind him to gain momentum then swings it above his head in a strong blow.
- Running Swing: closes distance to his attacker and swings the axe low quickly.
- Shaft Hit: hits the attacker with the shaft of the axe.
- Shove: shoves his attacker with his fist, knocking them back.
- Swing: swings the axe horizontally, followed by a vertical swing.
- Upperhead Swing: brings the axe down from above his head in a swing.
Fights exactly like an Axe-Wielding Bandit.

First encounter | Anayama: Ah... I know you. Yeah... You're that good sir, Shinobi, sir! I haven't seen you since, well, since that night. |
"Say nothing" | Wolf: ...... Anayama: Looks like you made it out safely, good sir. That's sure a relief. Good sir, I'm so glad you're safe. |
Greeting again | Anayama: Good sir, I'm so glad you're safe. I haven't seen you since that night. |
" "That Night"
? " |
Wolf: What night? Anayama: ... Hmm? You don't remember? Wolf: No. Anayama: Oh. I see... You don't remember... Hmm... Listen, sir. You and I, we've met before. I was a thief back then. But those days are behind me! Now, I'm an upbright and honest merchant! Only problem is, I'm broke. And being broke, I don't have anything to sell. So, good sir, would you mind lending me just a few coins to get my business going? I'll stock something useful just for you. You bet I will! And as a little bonus... I'll tell you all about "that night". What do you think? Pretty good deal, right? |
"Not interested" | Wolf: No. Anayama: Oh...? That's a shame. If you change your mind, you know where to find me. It's not a bad deal for either of us, I don't think. |
Talking again | Anayama: Have you changed your mind, good sir? If you could just provide me with a little bit of coin... I'll stock something useful just for you. You bet I will! And as a little bonus... I'll tell you all about "that night". What do you think? Pretty good deal, right? |
Accepting without having enough Sen | Anayama: Oh, good sir... Looks like you don't have enough coin. |
"Purchase information for 10" | Wolf: Here's some coin. Anayama: Thanks, good sir. Wolf: Now talk. Anayama: Yes, yes, yes, yes, of course. That night... My gang broke into the Hirata estate. Now as you're aware, the Hirata family's part of the Ashina. Normally they'd mop the floor with petty thieves like us, no sweat. But it just so happens we broke in during a battle. Almost all the young samurai were away from home. It was a prime opportunity. Then... we started a fire and cleaned out the place. That there's when I met you. You were looking for something... At least that's what it looked like to me. That's all I know about that night. Wolf: .........I see. Anayama: ... Yeah. That look you're making now, you had that same look on your face that night. You still looking for something? Wolf: ......... Anayama: ... Listen, good sir. For a price, I might be able to tell you some other tidbits you might find useful. For a price, of course. I'm a merchant now, you know. |
Leaving | Anayama: I'll procure some goods with the coin you gave me. Look forward to it, good sir. |
"Purchase information for 20" without the Flame Barrel | Wolf: I'll buy some information. Anayama: Thank you very much for your patronage! Hmm... Since you're a shinobi, I'll give you some information about shinobi tools. Anayama: I've seen this tube... "a tube with fire blasting out of it". When we broke into the Hirata estate one of my pals nabbed one. (Makes explosive sounds with mouth) That's the sound the fire makes when it blasts out. |

I mean, who knows when Ashina will fall... It's what you might call a sinking ship... In other words, opportunity is knocking, you know? Which is why I have a favour to ask of you. Wolf: What is it? Anayama: Do you mind finding out what the Ashina samurai want right now? You tell me that, and I can sell it to them. You're a shinobi. I bet you've got a good ear for gathering information from the enemy. Help a poor merchant out here, please. |
Greeting (generic) | Anayama: Greetings! Thanks for your business, good sir! Go on, buy something. |
Leaving before completing his request | Anayama: What do the Ashina samurai want right now? Please tell me when you find out. |
Greeting after completing his request | Wolf: I found out what the samurai want. Anayama: You mean it, good sir?! Wolf: Yes, it seems they're low on salt. Anayama: Salt, you say...? Well you eat it, of course. But it's also good for purifying the dead, and putting on wounds... Diseases spread quick with rotten corpses on the battlefield. Everyone's scrambling for salt... That means... Now's the time to cash in! Lots of people need salt. I mean, Karma shouldn't bite me if I sell it for a tad more than the going rate, right? Now that that's decided, it's time to get me some salt. Thank you very much, good sir. |
Leaving before he finds the salt | Anayama: I'll stock some new products if I can sell a lot of salt. Make sure you pay me a visit when I do! |
Greeting before he finds the salt | Anayama: Now then, how do I get me some salt... Oh, good sir, are you going to buy something? |
Greeting after he sold the salt | Anayama: Good sir, good sir! Listen here. My salt? I sold it for quite a pretty price. You know, it's in high demand. And that means I'm loaded with cash and product! Look, look, I've got some new items too. Buy something, please! |
Leaving after he sold the salt | Anayama: Oh, good sir! Listen here. Wolf: Is it about your business? |
Leaving before Kotaro is sent to him | Anayama: Until next time, good sir. I'm counting on you to find someone to help with the battlefields! Someone big and strong, please. |
Greeting after Kotaro is sent to him | Anayama: Good sir, you have one hell of an eye on you! You've found me a fine specimen. Not only he is strong, but he doesn't mind looting corpses neither. Thanks to you I've got piles of weapons, and I'm loaded with cash! Not to mention some new items in stock. Here, have a look. |
Leaving after Kotaro is sent to him | Anayama: Thanks to you, sales are soaring higher than a dragon! Maybe one day soon I'll be the top merchant in all of Ashina. If you're ever in a pinch, I'll hire you in a flash. Wolf: No. |
Leaving (generic) | Anayama: Until next time, good sir. Come again soon! |
Kotaro has Dragonrot | Anayama: Ahh, Good sir... Kotaro's come down with something serious... I'm worried about him, but I gotta keep workin'. Can't expect to nurse someone back to health with no money! |
After the Divine Dragon is defeated | Anayama: Good sir... How uh... are you? Wolf: .........What's wrong? |
Refusing | Anayama: Those... Those are some... tight purse strings you got. |
Purchasing the Promissory Note | Anayama: Thank you... And uh, about that product... I hid it in my underwear so... It might smell a bit ripe... Sorry... Wolf: I don't mind. |
First encounter | Anayama: Hey, good sir. Are you a looter, too? Good sir, you look like... a shinobi, I think. Are you looking for something? Well, in any case, I found this place first, so... Keep your eyes peeled out there, huh? And ya know, don't let the door hit ya on the... Oh, by the way. While I was on my way here I saw a three-story pagoda on top of some cliff.
